CANCELLED QUILT SHOW
Best of New York State Quilt Show
scheduled for October 12 & 13, 2024
at Camp Cory on Keuka Lake, Penn Yan, NY
Please read information below!
Due to factors beyond our control, the QCNYS Board finds it necessary to cancel the Best of New York Show scheduled for October. While we are disappointed to have to make the difficult decision to cancel the quilt show, we remain committed to celebrating the artistry and creativity of quilters.
We will still have our fall quarterly meeting starting with a social hour at 9:30 am and the business meeting starting at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 12 at Camp Cory on Keuka Lake (140 E. Lake Rd #54, Penn Yan, NY 14527). We hope you will attend because we have a lot to discuss.
Since we were all looking forward to seeing a collection of beautiful quilts in October we don’t want to lose that opportunity. We have reimagined a way to let us enjoy and celebrate members’ quilts. At the meeting, we will have a special program that we’re calling “The Parade of Quilts”.
Everyone is invited to bring one quilt to the meeting. If you won an award of excellence or invitational award from QCNYS, you can bring that quilt; if you won an award at your quilt guild, you can bring that quilt; if you participated in a QCNYS challenge (most recently, the Joy challenge), you can bring that quilt; if you participated in a QCNYS mystery quilt, you can bring that; if you just have a favorite quilt that you want us to see, you can bring that.
Periodically, throughout the meeting, we’ll ask a group of people to get up, walk around the room and let us all admire their quilts. There won’t be time during the meeting to talk about the quilts, but you should have time on breaks, during lunch and after the meeting to ask each other about the quilts you took note of.
While this won’t be the show we initially imagined, it will give us a nice opportunity to share our love of quilting with each other. Since the show is listed in the Passport, if you bring your passport to the meeting, you will get a stamp.
Lunch will be served as part of the meeting and, as usual, is included in the meeting registration fee. Also, as usual at a quarterly meeting, we will have vendors, raffle baskets and a supply of “wee little quilts” for sale. One of the raffle baskets will be open only to passport holders.
As part of the show, we had planned a class with Karen Miller. This class will still occur, following the main meeting. Additional Information about the meeting as well as a description and the cost of Karen Miller’s class will be forthcoming as soon as possible.
Again, we regret the need to cancel the show, but we hope that you will join together and make this a great re-imagined way to enjoy our quilts. We also hope that you will help us re-group and make a plan for going forward. Guild representatives, please help us notify your guild members, particularly those winners of QCNYS ribbons and awards who were planning to display their quilts at the show.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
